The Apple Tree Inn

The Apple Tree Inn at Morgan's Vale near Downton, was destroyed by fire in October 2003. Sadly the owners found themselves under-insured and unable to rebuild the pub. They subsequently applied for planning permission to build 5 houses on the plot. Salisbury District Council refused the application and a subsequent appeal upheld the Council's decision.

Locals, supported by Salisbury & South Wilts CAMRA have campaigned for the pub to be rebuilt but to date no-one seems interested in such a scheme.

On Saturday 17th February, as part of CAMRA's Community Pubs Week, a vigil was held by the site of the pub. More that 40 people turned out to have a pint; even if there was no pub to drink in!
